Happy anniversary to us! Three years! I feel like I was just writing our two year anniversary post and now here we are at number three! I’d say it’s been a big year with us becoming parents and all…
If you’ve been following me, you know I like to follow the traditional anniversary gifts by year. This year was particularly hard because year three is leather and neither of us are “leather people”. We don’t need new belts, wallets, cowboy boots… After searching and searching I stumbled across these really cute luggage tags made of leather. I figured since we have a few trips planned this year, why not?
There were tons of designs to choose from in Bramble and Beene’s Etsy shop. The one on the left is Shane’s since he we are Lord of the Rings fans. The one on the right is mine personalized with our initials and wedding date. On the back of each is our name, phone number and email address in case we ever lost our luggage. So where did we take these awesome new luggage tags you ask?
We had a weekend getaway to upstate New York while Grammy and Grandpapa took care of Ayla and Rocco. Shane and I left on Friday afternoon and drove up to Lake George. We had dinner at Adirondack Brewery, somewhere we’ve eaten before and enjoyed. They make all their own beer so of course Shane took advantage of their flights. I don’t particularly like beer but it sure looks like I do in this picture!
Saturday morning we were up bright and early for the main event… white water rafting! We drove about a half hour to North River, NY where we booked a trip with Adirondack Adventures. On our raft (other than Shane and me) were two other couples, a guide, a trainee and an assistant. Our guide was awesome. He got us through some really rough rapids (class 5!).
When we got there, we suited up in booties, wetsuits, lifejackets, hats, helmets and grabbed our gear (paddles) and hopped on the bus. After a 15 minute drive we arrived at our entry point. The 9 of us carried our raft into the water which was about 30 degrees. Since it had rained a few days prior to this trip the water was high and rough. It was awesome!
Shane and I sat in front where we got hit with the biggest, coldest rapids. We nearly fell out a few times but the adrenaline was rushing and we were psyched. By the end of the trip my lips were blue and I couldn’t feel my feet. When can we go back!?
That night we stayed close to the hotel. There was a restaurant across the street called Barnsider Smokehouse BBQ where Shane was in heaven. I don’t love BBQ but I was able to find a really good turkey reuben on the menu. I feel like I’m saying “I don’t like this, I don’t like that” (beer and BBQ – what am I crazy!?), but just wait until you hear about breakfast tomorrow… Fun fact: As soon as we sat down at our table our wedding song, Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years, played on the speakers. Fun fact 2: The same thing happened last year!
Sunday morning we woke up and headed home, but not before visiting the Silo Restaurant. Oh. Em. Gee. It was phenomenal. While we waited for a table we walked around their country store and gift shop. By the time we were seated I was starving and ordered the Big Country breakfast (two pancakes, three eggs, choice of meat, toast & home fries). I bit off a little more than I could chew (pun intended) but holy cow… my mouth is watering just writing about it.
